Simple Steps to Good Health

by Chris Jones on March 20, 2016

If we want to promote good health, we should minimize or completely avoid the following: Inactivity, Sugar, other Refined Carbohydrates, Gluten, Partially Hydrogenated Vegetable Oils (Trans Fats), Processed Meats, Alcohol, and Tobacco Products. Would you believe that some processed “foods” on the supermarket shelves contain up to four of these ingredients? No wonder we have an epidemic of chronic disease in the USA!

I know it’s not easy to avoid everything on the list, especially forms of refined carbohydrate, but we should make every effort to limit our sugar intake and particularly that of products containing Fructose, such as Table Sugar and High Fructose Corn Syrup. Please note that sugar is listed on food labels in many different forms, including Sucrose, Cane Sugar, Evaporated Cane Juice, Corn Syrup, and High Fructose Corn Syrup.

We should definitely avoid Trans Fats, Processed Meats, and Tobacco products, and greatly limit Gluten and Alcohol consumption.

On 16 June 2015, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) finalized its determination that Partially Hydrogenated Vegetable Oils (which contain Trans Fats) are not generally recognized as safe, and set a three-year time limit for their removal from all processed foods.
